GB-690815 Central Park, New York

Central Park is an urban park in the borough of Manhattan, New York City. It was initially opened in 1857 on 778 acres (315 ha) of city-owned land, later expanding to its current size of 843 acres (341 ha).

Today, Central Park is the most visited urban park in the United States as well as one of the most filmed locations in the world.

There are many attractions in the park.  One of these attractions is the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain.  The Terrace overlook ‘The Lake’. The fountain is located in the centre of the terrace.

This postcard featuring a colour lithograph in the Metropolitan Museum of Art shows the Lake and the Terrace of Central Park in the early 20th century.  This postcard came from Leek (9 September 2015) Postcrossing.

SW DG-264 Brooklyn Bridge by Andy Warhol

The Brooklyn Bridge is a bridge in New York City and is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Completed in 1883, it connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn by spanning the East River. It has a main span of 1,595.5 feet (486.3 m), and was the first steel-wire suspension bridge constructed. At the time it opened, and for several years, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world—50% longer than any previously built—and it has become a treasured landmark.

Since the 1980s, the Brooklyn Bridge has been floodlit at night to highlight its architectural features. The architectural style is neo-Gothic, with characteristic pointed arches above the passageways through the stone towers.

Andy Warhol (1928 – 1987) was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art.  This postcard shows one of his works.
