Is this an elk or a moose?

The animal bearing the scientific name Alces Alces is the “elk” in British English but is the “moose” in American English.  The elk’s distinguishing feature is the palmate antlers of the males; othe members of the deer family have antlers with a dedritic (’tiwg-like’) configuration.  The elk can be said to be an icon of Sweden.

This postcard came from Henrik Lundgren of Götenberg, Sweden in Nov 2013.
