DE-3099451, WC 91-319 & PL-1105178 Neuschwanstein Castle (Schloss Neuschwanstein), Bavaria, Germany

Neuschwanstein Castle (Schloss Neuschwanstein) is a nineteenth-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as a homage to Richard Wagner. Ludwig paid for the palace out of his personal fortune and by means of extensive borrowing, rather than Bavarian public funds.

The palace was intended as a personal refuge for the reclusive king, but it was opened to the paying public immediately after his death in 1886. Since then more than 61 million people have visited Neuschwanstein Castle. More than 1.3 million people visit annually. The palace has appeared prominently in several movies and was the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle.

The first postcard showing the castle in winter was sent by Zara (03 May 2014) Postcrossing. The second postcard came from Torsten Berner (Direct Swap 12 Feb 2014). The third postcard came from Melanie B. (9 July 2015) Swap-bot.
This fourth postcard of Neuschwanstein Castle came from Rjen, a Postcrosser in Poland (27 August 2015).

This fifth postcard came from Dorothee (1 June 2017) who provided a very comprehensive history of this castle..
