Now this is an area in which I have zero information. So when I received this very nice postcard from Belarus, I went hunting for data.
The Belarusian Railway (BCh) (Беларуская чыгунка) is the national state-owned railway company of Belarus. It operates all of the rail transport network in Belarus. As of 2005, the railway employs 112,173 people.
The company, formed in 1992 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, is one of the inheritors of the Soviet Railways. It administrates 5,512 km of railway with Russian broad gauge (1,520 mm). The railway's most important station is Minsk Terminal, the central station of the capital.
Maybe I should change the title of this post to "The railway system (AND MUSHROOMS) of Belarus" because the stamp used by Liza on this postcard shows very attractive mushrooms. The above stamp is actually from the bottom right corner of a MS of 8 stamps (4 different designs). The theme is Edible Mushrooms and the particular mushroom shown above is Rozites caperatus.
