SW CY-236-2 Skåne län - the southernmost county of Sweden

Skåne County (Skåne län), sometimes referred to as Scania County in English, is the southernmost administrative county or län, of Sweden, basically corresponding to the traditional province Skåne. The seat of residence for the Skåne Governor is the town of Malmö. The headquarters of Region Skåne is the town of Kristianstad. The present county was created in 1997 when Kristianstad County and Malmöhus County were merged, and it covers around 3% of Sweden's total area, but its population of 1,250,000 comprises 13% of Sweden's total population.

The flag of Skåne Province
The Skåne Cross Flag is a provincial flag. It is believed to have been created in 1902 at the private initiative of a historian. It combines the red field of the flag of Denmark with the yellow cross of the flag of Sweden, reflecting the troubled history of the region. This postcard is a clever representation of the flag.

Although not an official flag, the cross flag is used by the Region when the Council is in session, alongside the Swedish national flag, the European Union flag and the Council's own banner so its status can nowadays be considered semi-official.
This postcard came from Sara K. (Grantaire) (13 Aug 2014) Swap-bot.
