BY-1435557 The Church of the Saviour’s Transfiguration in Zaslaŭje

Zaslaŭje (Belarusian: Засла́ўе, Russian: Заславль; Polish: Zasław) is a historic town in Minsk Province of Belarus, 20 kilometres northwest of Minsk. In 2009 its population was 14,400.

The Church of the Saviour's Transfiguration is the town's main touristic highlight and landmark. It dates back to 1577, when it was built by Jan Glebovich and used to be surrounded by fortifications. The tower of this orthodox church is 35 metres high.

An interesting fact is that this cathedral was originally a prothestant Calvinist church, then a Catholic church of the Franciscan order before becoming an orthodox church in 1839.

This postcard sent by Ksenia (25 November 2014) Postcrossing also shows some parts of the old Val Site of Zaslaŭje.
