Mexico City is the capital of Mexico and seat of the
federal powers of the union. The estimated
population for the city proper is around 9 million people and the Greater
Mexico City population is 21 million people making it the largest metropolitan
area in the western hemisphere and the largest Spanish-speaking city in the
world.
This great postcard from Gerry M. (9 December 2014) is a
composite of several well-known sights in Mexico City. These are (a) the huge flag flying in the
Plaza
de la Constitución or Zócalo (b) the art-deco façade of the Palacio de
Bellas Artes (c) the Torre Latinoamericana and (d) a cupola of the Metropolitan
Cathedral. Towering in the background is
Popocatépetl or Popo an active volcano and the second
highest peak in Mexico.
The stamps on this postcard are very interesting too -
the flags of Mexico and Portugal are shown on this Mexico-Portugal Friendship
issue (6 June 2014) - it is a set of 2 stamps - here is the other stamp. The other stamp shows the National Football
Team (issued on 27 May 2014).
