In June 1941, the Germans launched Operation Barbarossa and
the Soviet Union entered World War II. This poster was published in the early
days of the German attack. The story behind this poster is that the wife of the
artist, Irakli Toidze, ran into his studio screaming "War!" upon
hearing the news on the radio. Irakli asked her to freeze her movement and her
posture is what is seen in the poster. Of course the features of the Motherland
was not that of Irakli’s wife because the powers that be toned down her looks
for the poster.
Postcards I have received from 2013 to 2018 primarily through Postcrossing and Swap-bot although there are some postcards here that are from other sources.
