TW-1484183 Sky Lanterns in Pingxi (平溪), Taiwan

In Pingxi (平溪) (as well as in Shifen (十分)) a visitor is able to purchase a sky lantern (天燈), write wishes on it and release it into the sky.  It is of course more visually pleasant to do so at night but there is nothing stopping a person from doing this activity at any time of the day.  To the Chinese, releasing a Sky Lantern is especially meaningful during the Chinese New Year festivities.

There is of course an annual Sky Lantern Festival.

This postcard came from Hui Ching (April 2015 Postcrossing).

  1. Such lanterns are becoming more and more popular in Russia. Some people do it in weddings and other big days.
