RU-3625114 Russian architecture of the 19th Century

This postcard from Mary (8 June 2015 Postcrossing) shows beautiful examples of Russian buildings, gates and arches of the 19th Century.

A generic term for the style of this period is The Russian Revival style (псевдорусский стиль, неорусский стиль).  This generic term actually includes a number of different movements within Russian architecture that arose in the second quarter of the 19th century. The term Russian Revival is about an eclectic melding of pre-Peterine Russian architecture and elements of Byzantine architecture.

The Russian Revival style arose within the framework of renewed interest in national architecture, which evolved in Europe in the 19th century, and it is an interpretation and stylization of the Russian architectural heritage.
