The Ruins of St. Paul's (大三巴牌坊)
refers to the ruins of a 16th-century complex in Macau including of what was
originally St. Paul's College and the Church of St. Paul also known as
"Mater Dei", a 17th-century Portuguese church dedicated to Saint Paul
the Apostle. Today, the ruins are one of Macau's best known landmarks.
This carving of a seven headed beast
is on the wall of “Mater Dei”. The
postcard only shows the feet but the complete image is that of Mother Mary
trampling this beast. The Bible speaks
of this beast in Revelation 13.1:
“And I saw a beast coming out of the
sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on its horns, and on
each head a blasphemous name.”
This postcard came from Macau (26 June
2015) Postcrossing.
