TW-2312820 City of Taichung in Taiwan

This postcard features interesting venues in Taichung as well as special food items associated with this city.

Taichung, officially known as Taichung City ( 臺中市), is a special municipality located in centre-western Taiwan. As of July 2017, Taichung city's population reached 2,778,182 people, its first time passing Kaohsiung city's 2,777,873 people. Of the 6 special municipalities (and all counties/cities), its population is second only to New Taipei's. The current city was formed when Taichung County merged with the original provincial Taichung City to form the special municipality on 25 December 2010.

Featured on the postcard is the Luce Memorial Chapel (路思義教堂) a Christian chapel on the campus of Tunghai University. It was designed by the firm of noted architect I. M. Pei (貝聿銘).

The Taichung Park Pavilion (台中公園湖心亭) is also featured.

The National Taichung Theater (台中國家歌劇院) an opera house in Taichung appears on the postcard too. The estimated area of the structure is 57,685 square metres (620,920 sq ft). It was officially opened in 2016.

Taichung is famous for the suncake, or taiyang bing. It is a popular Taiwanese dessert. The typical fillings consist of maltose (condensed malt sugar), and they are usually sold in special gift boxes as souvenirs for visitors. They are characterized by flaky crusts. Most people eat them with Chinese tea, and some people dissolve them in hot water to make a porridge-like dessert.

Bubble tea and the flower market are also mentioned on the postcard.
This postcard came from Tony (17 August 2017).
