SW BB-079 Ketchikan, Alaska

Ketchikan is the southeasternmost city in Alaska. It has a population of more than 8,000 within the city limits.  Because of its location at the southern tip of the Inside Passage, it is normally the first Alaskan city for those who cruise north, and for many visitors, their first introduction to the beauty and majesty of Alaska.

Founded as a salmon cannery site in 1885, Ketchikan's livelihood was initially fishing and for years the city was known as the “Canned Salmon Capital of the World.” Logging became an important industry as well, and when cruise ships started plying the waters of the Inside Passage, Ketchikan naturally became a popular port of call.

This postcard sent by Tracy Lee (14 May 2014) Swap-bot shows 4 views of Ketchikan

1.    The eagle statue in Eagle Park
2.    An aerial view of cruise ships in the harbour
3.    Creek Street
4.    Downtown Ketchikan at night.

Personal note:  Ketchikan was the last Alaskan city for us before we reached Vancouver on our 2009 cruise southwards.  Here are three other postcards of Ketchikan that I bought when I was in that town.
