UA-1574616 The Great Monument of Saint Vladimir in Kyiv, Ukraine

The Saint Vladimir (Volodymyr) Monument is a monument in Kiev dedicated to the Great Prince of Kiev Vladimir the Great built in 1853. It is the oldest sculptural monument in Ukraine and it overlooks the Dnieper River.

The statue is cast in bronze. The Great Prince is depicted in a coat with a big cross in his right hand and a hat in his left. The monument stands 4.4 m (14 ft) tall on a 16 m (52 ft) tall pedestal. The brick pedestal and stylobate are revetted with cast iron plates. The total height of the monument is 20.4 m (67 ft).

Who was Vladimir the Great?
Vladimir the Great (also (Saint) Vladimir of Kiev} was a prince of Novgorod, grand prince of Kiev, and ruler of Kievan Rus' from 980 to 1015. Originally a follower of Slavic paganism, Vladimir converted to Christianity in 988 and Christianized the Kievan Rus'. The Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches celebrate the feast day of St. Vladimir on 15 July.
