This postcard shows the icon of St Theodore
Stratilates. It was painted in 1677 by
icon-painter Fyodor Zubor. It is located
in the Upper Cathedral of the Saviour in Moscow Kremlin and the icon has silver
and gilt mounting.
Theodore Stratilates (Stratelates), also called Theodore
of Heraclea, was a Roman general in the army of the Emperor Licinius (r.
308-324). He was either beheaded or crucified at the command of the emperor.
Theodore Stratelates is an important saint in the Greek Orthodox Church.
